BU Drops Pair to Kutztown in Softball

BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University softball team dropped a pair of games to Kutztown University on Sunday by scores of 5-1 and 2-1.
In the opener, Kutztown's Steph Denlinger slammed a three-run homer in the third inning to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Bloomsburg got one back in the fifth when Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore). Kutztown extended its lead to 5-1in the seventh when Kathy Gregg hit a two-run homer.
In game two, the Huskies lost by a score of 2-1 despite Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) allowing just four hits in the game. However, two of the four hits were solo home runs, one by Denlinger and the other by Ashley Fitzgerald. The Huskies only run came from Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) who hit a solo shot in the sixth inning. Neyhard finished the game 3-3 with a double, triple and home run.
Bloomsburg did threaten in the bottom of the seventh when Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) reached on a two-base error, but pinch-runner was called out for interference on a batted ball by Reed to end the game.
Kutztown improves to 30-6, 7-1 in the PSAC East, while the Huskies fall to 26-5, 5-3 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg will host Mansfield on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
